Barford Shop Volunteering opportunities
Our volunteers are a fab team who represent our whole community. They are aged from 14 to 92 and all have different personalities and strengths. Between them they make the shop the vital social hub of the village. Volunteering is a great way to get to know fellow Barfordians and find out about all the things going on in this vibrant village. Counter staff volunteers do one or two shifts a week, a shift is 3 hours. There are always two volunteers on each shift. Wholesaler Delivery: about an hour on a Tuesday morning to help unpack our big delivery. Stock Takes, Spring Cleaning and Maintenance: every few months on a Sunday afternoon. Full training and support are given.
Think you might like to make a difference? Pop into the shop, have a chat and pick up a form or email Corenna managerbvs@phonecoop.coop |

WES AND IRENE LACEY
CYCLE ALONG THE DANUBE FOR MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE Have made it to Donaueschingen, the source of the Danube, on schedule. Journey to Stuttgart ok although did not get much sleep on the sleeper. Left Stuttgart at 5.45 so had a long day. Camped first night at Tubingen but learned no campsites for next 75 mls so had to settle for a gasthaus! Started to rain as we arrived. Ditto today so another gasthaus day. Weather started off v hot but chillier now with threat of rain. Route delightful although some hills as we were ascending Neckar valley. Downhill all the way now. People incredibly friendly and helpful. Best wishes from slightly saddle sore Laceys! (120 mls, a few more left) ___________________________________ It is Monday, so this must be
Regensburg. 422 mls, 1 puncture, 6 nights camping
and 5 in proper beds. A lot warmer now - mid 80s so
camping a more attractive option. Continue to be
lucky avoiding rain. Much more interesting & varied
than we thought. We were duped about the hills
though - having to engage granny gear quite often.
Compensated for by glorious countryside and
wonderful cycle paths Wes perfecting the art of looking stupid.. ___________________________________

Arrived in Bratislava today
following a 5 night camping break in Vienna which
was wonderful-full of lovely buildings, amazing
history, music, and cakes! Managed to repair our
broken tent pole but need to go to a bike shop
tomorrow to get Wes a new tyre after a very fraught
start this am with a succession of failed inner
tubes. Fortunately the last one worked and held out
today. ___________________________________ Made it. Ended up with time to spare so
last few days have been relatively easy with a final
20 mls into Budapest today - 987 mls so far so
should easily pass the 1000 mark overall. Hungary has been interesting in a number of ways. Significantly poorer with the occasional horse drawn vehicle contrasting with the fleets of Mercs in Germany and Austria. Poor infrastructure evident in the state of the roads and lots of derelict industrial sites and generally people looking less well. It has also presented us with our worst weather , we were caught in the middle of nowhere in a violent thunder/hailstorm and got drenched. By the time we had got to our destination, a delightful campsite in a cherry orchard , the weather had warmed up and we ended up eating out in the beautiful town square of Gyor. ___________________________________ |
